The desire for God is written in the human heart, because man is created by God for God”

We look at faith as a treasure that God has given us. Faith is then a gift. When we talk about gratitude, we talk about gifts given and gifts received, and we thank God for the gift received. Everything is a gift. That is what gratitude is all about.

In gratitude, we see faith as the gift that it is. God gives us faith. So we thank God for the gift of faith. The way we thank God is to give a gift back. If you want to keep your faith, you have to give it away.

In Stewardship of Spirituality, we appreciate the gift of faith by receiving it as a gift from God and then giving the gift back to God in thanksgiving for what He has given us. Receiving the gift of faith means you have to develop the faith that God has given to you. This what Stewardship of Faith is all about.

At St. John Vianney, we encourage our parishioners to develop the faith that God has given us. In Stewardship of Spirituality, we ask our community to make a commitment grow in their faith. We encourage parishioners to develop their faith in three ways: Participation in Bible Study Groups, Family Based Faith Formation, Parish Events, plus many more opportunities. Read. Watch. Study such as Parish Bulletin, The Catholic Voice, Books and movies about the Catholic Faith, etc. Share Your Faith by joining a Ministry, leading a Bible Study, or attending Alpha or Faith Café. These are just a few suggestions. There are many more!

This is how we receive our faith well enough so that we are able to share it and give it away, hence, “go and make disciples”. It is faith that gets us to practice the gifts of hope and love.

ALPHA for Teens is a contemporary exploration of the Christian Faith that helps young people explore the character and history of Christ. The 7-week series meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm-8:30pm in the Faith Formation Hall, and includes food, film and fellowship.

The short films are shot at locations all over the world and show youth from different countries sharing their views on faith. There is small group discussion about different weekly topics, like “Who is Jesus?” and “Prayer: why and how do I pray?”.

There will also be a one-day retreat on Saturday, September 21st where teens can explore the topic of the Holy Spirit.

Alpha for Teens runs from Wednesday, August 21st through Wednesday, October 16th. High School teens  can sign up online by clicking here or they can sign up in person at Faith Formation.  Teens are encouraged to bring friends of any faith to join us in this journey of faith and discovery.

The Stewardship Committee is responsible for enabling and encouraging our parishioners to make “Stewardship a Way of Life” by giving back through time, talent and treasure those gifts God has given us.  One major opportunity to give back and make “Stewardship a Way of Life” is through the various Ministries offered at SJV.

On September 7-8 in the Vista we will execute our annual Ministry Faire after each Mass. This is opportunity for all parishioners to explore the many Ministries available and to find one that fits your talent and time available to get involved.  In preparation for the Faire we ask that you take home a Ministry Directory, discuss as a family or with friends and decide which Ministry(s) you might want to explore and possibly join.

We are very thankful to all those that do such a great job in the many Ministries in our Parish. Without your help we simply could not do what is necessary to give the spiritual care needed in our parish and community.
