Children's Liturgy of the Word
This is a special Sunday morning opportunity for elementary aged children to celebrate the Liturgy of the Word during the 9:00am and 11:00am Masses. Younger children are welcome when accompanied by a parent.
The children are invited to gather in the church with a catechist prior to the first reading. They are sent forth by the community with blessing and song to listen and reflect on the Sunday Children's Sunday readings. They return to the assembly before the presentation of the gifts. The Gospel message is shared with the children through ritual, Scripture and interactive reflection.
Alpha for Teens, starting Wednesday, March 13th
ALPHA for Teens is a contemporary exploration of the Christian Faith that helps young people explore the character and history of Christ. The 7-week series meets on Wednesday evenings from 7-9pm in the Faith Formation Hall, and includes food, film and fellowship. The short films are shot at locations all over the world and show youth from different countries sharing their views on faith. There is small group discussion about different weekly topics, like “Who is Jesus?” and “Prayer: why and how do I pray?”.
At St. John Vianney, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Montessori inspired way of religious formation for children ages 3-6. The CGS program is based on sacred scripture and liturgy of the Catholic Church. From a very young age, children have a capacity to encounter and understand God. The CGS program works to cultivate that relationship.
At St. John Vianney, we believe the family is the “domestic church”( Lumen Gentium # 11) . It is within the context of the family that children first learn and encounter who God is. Respecting the sacredness and importance of the family, our program works to support parents as the primary educators of their children.
(Tuesday evenings at 7:00pm-8:30pm)
The scripture centered curriculum is experienced through large group and small group activities and social interaction.Parents are welcome to join the students at any gathering and are required to attend 4 specific gatherings during the year.
St. John Vianney Youth Group is a wonderful community where high school aged teens can come together to hang out with each other, learn about their faith among other important topics all while developing new friendships with people from a wide variety of schools. Its a fun and safe place to come on Sunday nights from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.
