Week 1: May 3-9

In this first week, Jesus speaks directly into fear and uncertainty: “Do not let your hearts be troubled.” The disciples are confused, unsure of what’s ahead, and longing for clarity. Thomas wants directions. Philip wants proof. And Jesus responds not with a map or explanation—but with Himself: “I am the way and the truth and the life.”

OPENING PRAYER

Heavenly Father,
We gather as Your people, not just to learn, but to be sent. Remind us that Your Church is alive—a movement of grace, called into the world to reflect Your love. As we meet together, open our hearts to Your story of creation and redemption. Help us to see where You are already at work and where You are inviting us to join You. Give us wisdom to discern our role, courage to focus on what matters most, and unity as we walk together in mission. Shape us into disciples who make disciples, for the sake of Your kingdom.
In Jesus’ name, Amen

INSIGHT FROM OUR READINGS

In this week’s Gospel: Jesus speaks directly into fear and uncertainty: “Do not let your hearts be troubled.” The disciples are confused, unsure of what’s ahead, and longing for clarity. Thomas wants directions. Philip wants proof. And Jesus responds not with a map or explanation—but with Himself: “I am the way and the truth and the life.”

This is the heart of the “Mission Impossible” moment. We often want certainty, details, and control before we act. But Jesus invites us into something deeper: trust. The mission is not about having everything figured out—it’s about knowing Him.

Even more striking, Jesus tells His followers that they will continue His work—and do even greater things. What feels impossible suddenly becomes possible, not because of our ability, but because Christ lives and works through us.

ADDITIONAL SCRIPTURE PASSAGES

“As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” - John 20:21

“Act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” - Micah 6:8

QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION AND DIALOG

  1. Read aloud Acts 6:7. What does this say about the primary mission of the Church?
  2. What do we learn about God’s heart for the world by looking at Jesus’ life?
  3. How is following a person (Jesus) different from just following rules or beliefs?
  4. Where do you see opportunities to continue the work of Jesus in your current context (home, work, community)?
  5. What injustices in the world or problems in the world bother you most? What are you doing right now to address those issues? What might God want you to do in the next year to address that issue?
  6. How would your life change if you recognized that every day you are a part of God’s mission? Are you continuing His work in your daily living?
PRAY
  • Being each day with “Lord, where are You already moving, and how can I join You?
  • Pray for those who are actively engaged in missionary work locally and those globally.
  • Pray for Compassion and ask the Lord to give you a missionary heart to see his people in your daily encounters.
 ACT
  • Do something above and beyond for someone you don’t know (eg - Pay for the person behind you or let someone go in line ahead of you.)
  • Do a random act of kindness without telling anyone else about it.
  • Donate something you don’t need anymore to a local charity.
INSPIRE
  • Share with someone about your faith journey
  • Call someone who may be lonely and offer them words of encouragement
  • Invite someone to join you for mass this coming weekend.

INTERCESSIONS FOR THE GROUP

Take some time to pray together for the persons or people on the Hearts of your small group members.

CLOSING PRAYER

Lord Jesus,

You have said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” As we go from this place, anchor us in Your way, so that we walk faithfully wherever You lead. Ground us in Your truth, so that we live with clarity and conviction in a restless world. Fill us with Your life, so that through us others may encounter hope, healing, and renewal.

Send us out as Your Church—Your movement—ready to partner in Your work of restoration. Keep us focused, keep us faithful, and keep us close to You.

In Your holy name, Amen.
