How You Made a Difference!
Before the memories of Winter fade away, The Faith in Action Ministry would like to share with you how your help in providing meals and donations for the Trinity Center Winter Shelter in Walnut Creek affected the lives of those who were served.
The Winter Shelter was a partnership between Trinity Center, the City of Walnut Creek and the National Guard Armory to provide shelter for Trinity Center clients for 4 1/2 months during the coldest months of winter. The average nightly group was about 25. A large number of people sheltered were people who had lost their housing due to increases in rent and older men and women with disabilities and limited income. These members were reluctant to go to public shelters but felt safe being at the Armory.
Of the 61 members enrolled in the program, 44 were engaged with a case manager. Outcomes of weekly meetings include 9 referrals to mental health and alcohol and other drug services, 33 housing referrals and applications, 19 employed both full and part time, 14 were temporarily housed and 5 were permanently housed. Trinity Center continues to work with the members who still need services and housing.
The Winter Shelter provided the stability and services participants needed to work toward ending their homelessness. They were very grateful for the wonderful meals provided by so many of our parishioners, and the notes of encouragement our Youth Group delivered to them with the dinner they prepared. God is Love, and we are Love when we touch the stranger among us. Thank you for making a difference.
