Offers an opportunity to learn about and discuss the Christian Scriptures of the New Testament in the Catholic tradition.  This level uses a text called Discovering. We will also explore using Celebrating the Lectionary.   We will study the people, events and culture of Jesus’ life time and how to apply that to our lives.

We will also have a time for socializing, service projects, and a mini-retreat.  The door is always open to parents and/or teens for any questions or concerns.

8th Grade

The 8th grade program is a special opportunity for students to study Christian values with such topics as God’s Image, Understanding Myself, Making Decisions, Male/Female Issues, Relationships, and much more.  This is not a sex education course, but is about applying Christian Values and Catholic Morals to aid in the confusing world of a teen.  This level uses a text called Discovering.  We will also explore using Celebrating the Lectionary.

We will also have a time for socializing, service projects, and a mini-retreat.  The door is always open to parents and/or teens for any questions or concerns.

Dear Families,

School has started and Faith Formation classes are right around the corner.   Although summer is not quite over, the 2016-2017 year is upon us.

My name is Myrna Aiello and I am your Middle School Faith Formation Coordinator.  I am so blessed to be in this position!  I have been a parishioner her at SJV for about 25 years.  I am active in children and youth sacraments with Marie Walton, our Pastoral Associate for Sacraments. I also have a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Criminal Justice specializing in corrections for youth.  Along with my husband, Jack, we are active in other ministries throughout the church.  Jack and I share our faith with our three children, Devin, Darryl and Mariana.

Last year we celebrated the theme “Everyone is Sacred!”  We will begin with the end of our Jubilee 5oth Anniversary, continue to celebrate the Year of Mercy with Pope Francis and it will be in union with this year’s 2016-2017 Pray with Jesus”theme. Mass will be an ongoing Spiritual journey to continue to help us grow in our relationship with God. Come and hear about this and other events for all our Middle School students during our Parent Orientation.   Please see the calendar online at www.sjvianney.org or a paper one is available in the Faith Formation office.  This will be a great way to enrich our journey as a faith community.  I look forward in assisting our youth in making  SJV a fun, yet safe place to be!

The summer has brought on many changes in the office and the classrooms.  If you have not met Liz Rogers, our Pastoral Associate for Faith Formation, please stop by! I have been working on adding, implementing various different aspects to the curriculum, and will continue with  Service Projects and Social Activities.  The Social Activities will give a chance for the students to build community before, during or after class.
